On Eternity
Ecclesiastes 3.11 is another of my favourite Bible verses:
God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
Inside every human heart God has planted the seed of eternity. Here are some ways we can water that seed.
1. Think Generationally
Recognise is a Generational God. What God is doing in your life is not just for you, it’s for the generations that will rise when you’re all but a memory.
In Joshua chapter 1, after the death of Moses, the Lord spoke Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses’ Assistant. He said, Now that my servant Moses is dead, you must lead My people across the Jordan into the land I’m giving them. I promise you what I promised Moses….
God just turned His head and the vision continued.
Don’t think of your life just here and now. God was there at the beginning and He’ll be there at the end. He is the God of
2. Think Bigger
The way in which you see your life will ultimately shape your life. Make your mind up today that you’re going to change the way you think and live life from the perspective of eternity. Make the most of every moment.
Isaiah 55:9
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
It is so easy to focus on your own problems and what matters to you. We can get so distracted that the eternity that God has placed in our hearts has been forgotten about. As a result the world is no bigger than the bubble you’re living in.
3. Make the Most of Today
Make your mind up today that you’re going to change the way you think and live life from the perspective of eternity. Make the most of every moment.
Today will influence tomorrow. How you spend your time will reveal eternity’s value in your heart. Your commitments will show your values.
Psalm 90:12 says
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom
There are three days in your life that will be more significant than any other.
The first is the day you were born.
The second is the day you were born again.
The third is today – because today is the only day you will have any power over, yesterday’s gone, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet, but today you can make a difference.
If you want to change the way you live your life and influence eternity then you must realise the power of each day. Don’t take your days for granted.
Don’t settle for a mediocre life where one day runs into the next, where you live out a bland Christian life. Make every day count.
When Bill Clinton was inaugurated as President of the United States, arguably he became the most powerful man in the western world. Yet when you ask someone what Bill Clinton will be remembered for, it won’t be for the job he did as President.
His approach to the normal, insignificant days marred his reputation, family, and leadership.
Determine to make the most of everyday for eternity.
